California Solar Energy Growth Is Leading The Pack!

California Solar EnergyIn California solar energy receives a great deal of government and public support, and it shows! In a list put together by the Solar Energy Industries Association comparing states’ installed solar capacity, California solar energy is leading the pack with 971 megawatts, which is more than the capacity of most major power plants. New Jersey came in at a distant second at only 293 megawatts, but with slightly faster growth rates – which may seem odd given the differences in weather patterns between the two states.

California Solar Energy Makes Up 47% of the Nation’s Total

Almost half of our nation’s solar comes from California solar energy. There are many reasons why this is the case. The sunny, clear weather, particularly in the Southern part of the state, allows panels to work at optimal levels, making California solar energy a better investment than for many other states.

Also, the state government incentivizes the expansion of California solar energy with rebates through the California Solar Initiative, making it easier for residents to afford the installation of solar panels. Solar lease agreements are an additional benefit to homeowners because it allows them to take advantage of the cost-savings of California solar energy without having to take a risk on the high upfront costs or the worry about maintaining and repairing the solar panel system if something goes wrong.

In California solar energy is an investment that just makes sense, and its expansion shows no sign of stopping. Today it is cheaper than ever to install solar energy panels in your home. Homes that do have decreased energy costs and sell at higher prices.

Solar energy is very important in todays climate, more people need to start using it.

Absolutely agree! The truth is more and more people are beginning to move in this direction and we believe the best is yet to come. In time it will just become SOP because the supply of fossil fuels continue to diminish while the demand for energy continues to increase. The population continues to grow and our world is becoming more and more dependent on electricity with advances in technology. Decreasing supply and increasing demand will push up the price of fossil fuels while the price for solar and other types of green tech is coming down. When we reach the tipping point it will not be necessary to legislate change or shame people into going green for the environment – they will act in their own self interest and make the change themselves once it is the most affordable option for them to take.

When do you think solar panels and solar technology will start becoming affordable?

    • admin

Naturally, the answer to your question depend upon a number of factors but I think we are getting very close. If the price of fossil fuels continue to rise and the price of solar continues to fall then it could happen very rapidly. Today there are government subsidies in place to help bridge that gap – thus making it affordable for many homeowners today. With that in mind I think that in few years government subsidies will not be required to make solar affordable for the average household.

I love California… unbelievable city and very hot too. Though I appreciate that we need to harness the sun for its renewable energy but I hope that this does not ruin this beautiful city.

Hi James – I wouldn’t worry so much about the aesthetics. What’s really ugly is the projected long run cost of traditional forms of electricity and the pollution that coal powered electricity creates for the environment. With that in mind, it is worth noting, that the size of solar systems are getting a bit smaller and designs are improving. In fact Green architectural firms are building solar powered, energy efficient buildings that look extremely stylish and new technologies will likely make further improvements as we progress. Thanks for the comment – we appreciate your feedback!
